Pinkerton CTE Student Runs His Own Maple Sugaring Business

Pinkerton Academy senior Ryan Neil takes work-based learning to new heights.  Starting at age 13, Ryan’s Sugar Shack got its start by tapping two trees.  Five years later, he now has 1,500 taps which produced 250 gallons of maple syrup.  This year, with the addition of a vacuum system, he is on track to produce 400 to 500 gallons of syrup.  Pinkerton has its own sugar house which is part of their Natural Resources CTE program.  Learn more from this segment which recently aired on WMUR’s Chronicle.

FFA State President, Sydney Wilson traveled to Washington D.C. to represent agriculture and FFA on Capitol Hill for National Ag Day! She had the opportunity to talk to New Hampshire staff in the Senate and Congress about important agricultural topics. She even was able to meet National Secretary of Agriculture; Sonny Perdue! Congress Tells FFA: Our Country Needs More People Like You

This week Agriculture Committee Chairmen Sen. Pat Roberts, R-Kan., and Rep. K. Michael Conaway, R-Texas, addressed more than 100 state FFA officers, urging them to advocate on behalf of agriculture and take advantage of the plentiful jobs within agriculture.

FFA State Officers Visit New Commercial Facility

The FFA State Officers recently had the opportunity to visit Lëf Farms, a new 75,000 square foot, multi-million dollar production facility in Loudon.  The operation, owned by Pleasant View Gardens, is expected to hydroponically produce 1.3 million pounds of fresh greens each year.  With their state-of-the-art computerized system, harvest to table time is 24 hours.  The State Officers were able to chat with Henry Huntington, co-owner, about the bright future for this commercial agriculture venture.
